I am new to gardening, but I like using Burpee Seeds, and Park Seeds. I have also used White Flower Farms.

R. H. Shumway, related to Jungs Seed Co. Ordered from the for several years now and very happy with service and products!

Richters has taken the Safe Seed Pledge, and if youre close to them, they give classes, and they have wonderful databases.

It may seem a bit nostalgic, but I tend to buy my vegetable seeds from either Burpee or Gurneys and my fruit trees from Stark Brothers. I know I have just a little bias toward these, because I have salivated over their catalogs for the last 40+ years. Now I will be using gardening for mobility therapy! It should be more interesting than just walking a track.

Im almost sure those seeds were from Earl May, a nursery based out of Shenandoah, Iowa.

For a list of Canadian Mail-Order sources, click here.

Definitely check out greenwoodnursery.com. The nursery has been in business since 1978 and on the web since 1994. They have over 400 products listed from Trees and shrubs to ground cover and perennials. They sell the best plants for the best value.

I purchase all my seeds and tomato plants from R.H.Shumways in Randolph, WI. The mail order service is exceptional! The first time I ordered tomato plants I was abit concerned as they were so tiny, but they ended up outdoing the ones I bought locally that were larger. Plus there prices even with shipping end up being the same as locally purchased and I feel the seeds and plants are exceptional. Hope this helps any one looking for quality at reasonable prices. I live in West TN. GOD BLESS!

During the dead of winter, its fun to thumb through the pages of seed catalogs, discovering the wide variety of flowers, vegetables, and fruit that might fit yourgrowing zone. Start dreaming and planning!

In Canada we get organic heirloom seeds from the Cottage Gardener

My dad use to buy seeds through the mail. I remember the box that was delivered said on it The seeds that pay are sold by May. Any history on that company?

Unbelievable selection, reasonable prices, free shipping and great customer service.

These are all incredible sources, thanks! May I add my preferred seed company? Sustainable Seed Co has a terrific selection of heirloom as well as organic seed for cheap yet their quality is top tier. Here is their site,

Try Timeless-Tomatoes. Better prices, newer seed and free shipping.

Such a great seed company nestled here in the mountains. I frequent their store quite a bit and always impressed with the staff and their seeds.

If its tomato or pepper seed (heirloom) youre looking for, there is only 1 option.

Note:More and more seed companies are discontinuing print catalogs and putting them online. We try to keep this page updated, but if you see any outdated information below, please post the correction so that we can update this list. Thank you!

Seed Bank is an online retailer of non-GMO garden seeds. Here is the link:

Another great one is Caladium World. They have been around for 30 years and specialize in caladium bulbs. Product, delivery and service has never let me down. The best quality and size of bulbs. Never a bad bulb in the bunch when I receive them.

A Canadian (wonderful) source of Herb seeds and plants is Richters:

They are an onion plant producer in Texas. Ive done business with them for several years and their products are outstanding. Their website has very good information specific to growing onions and leeks. They are celebrating their 100th year in business!

They no longer grow anything, but buy all their stock from local growers. I believe they have 1100 retail stores, in several States. Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas for sure.

10 year customer here, and Ive had 100% germination from these folks.

I am wondering why there are no or very few seed companies in the South? Ive yet to see a seed company in zone 8. I live in Texas and most of the seed companies are up North. Would you be able to answer my wonderings?

Another good one is South GA Seed Company. Small seed company only around - varieties, but they only sell O.P. Heirlooms. They sell seed banks too. website is pretty ir.

Found these folks recently. Love their website and the items Ive ordered have been very good quality. And even more, I appreciate that when I had a complex question they took the time to help me figure out a solution.

Its never too early to start planning your garden! Heres a list of mail-order seed catalogs that you can peruse while youre waiting for the growing season to begin.

Looks like they dont send orders outside of Canada :(

I prefer Totally Tomatoes for all of my tomato seeds. I have always been totally 100% satisfied.

Ive been watching MIgardener for quite a while on youtube and he provides great gardening information. The seed store at has a great selection of organic/non-GMO seeds at only .99 cents per pack as well as other gardening supplies. I just ordered five different tomato seed types to try this season and his seed packs are all hand packed with more seed than the average seed company.

For a great selection of berry plants and small growing fruit trees check out:

None of the catalogs on this list are produced or sold byThe Old Farmers Almanac. This is simply a list of editors and readers vorites. If you have any suggestions, simply share in a comment below.

Its worth your consideration. I check this site first.

Was Thompson-Morgan bought out by Gurneys? Thats where the T-M link takes me...

Submitted byJenny L. DixononApril 14, 2015 - 8:56am

And we got to talking . . . turns out while the website is new, the business is operated by folks who have been in gardening for years, working for others and now for themselves. Knowledgeable, helpful and with great grower connections to be able to source high quality (we all know quality varies in gardening products).

I always buy my seeds at New England Seed They are No-GMO and have signed the safe seed pledge. I have been getting their free seed catalog for years and ordering online. They have good customer service and the site is easy to navigate. They also have unique varieties that I can sell at my local rmers market.

Thompson-Morgan is based in theUK; their American associate is Gurneys.
